Did you know that, Listerine was actually first developed as an antiseptic for surgery, over a hundred years ago? around the mid 1860's to exact. It was never really intended for mouthwash and it would take 30 years before the amber colored, antiseptic would be known as a useful tool to battle bacteria for our mouths. It took over the next 20+ years for Listerine to finally make it's way to dental offices and eventually leading to its 1914 release as an over the counter drug. Isn't this fascinating stuff? I had no idea.....I love researching things.
Because Antiseptic mouthwash is designed to kill the germs in your mouth; it's because of these very same reasons the mouthwash could be used for cleaning and disinfecting things in your household to. I have used two of the things mentioned below(like, disinfecting my toothbrush and for my blemishes) can't wait to try the other uses like:
Clean the toilet.
All you need is a half a cup of mouthwash. Pour it in the toilet, swish it around with a toilet brush and flush! and your done. This kills the germs and shine your toilet bowl all at once.
Clean grout and inhibit mold growth.
All you need is a old toothbrush. Dip the toothbrush in mouthwash and start cleaning that grout. This will work because Antiseptic is so strong that it will cut easily through hard water stains and build-up. Just make sure you label that toothbrush for cleaning only! You don't want any accident....yikes!
Shine mirrors and handles.
Take a lint free cloth and just put a little on it and do work. This will shine up your mirrors and disinfect medicine cabinet handles, doorknobs, faucets and flush levers.
Clean T.V.'s and Computer Screens.
A little alcohol based antiseptic mouthwash will clean dirt, grease and fingerprints off those surfaces
Remove bacteria from laundry.
Add a cup of mouthwash to each load of laundry along with your detergent to kill any of those unwanted germs.
Disinfect your toothbrush(my fav).
Wash your toothbrush with some antiseptic mouthwash every couple of days to ensure there is no lingering bacteria that could make you sick.
Banish a Blemish.
Take a cotton or cotton swab to dab some mouthwash on your blemish, it'll kill the bacteria and clear up that pimple(when I did this I left it for a minute or two because I was afraid of scaring since I have sensitive skin and washed it off)
Disinfect a cut or scrape.
If you don't have any antiseptic wipes or creams handy, mouthwash will clean and disinfect injuries
And that's all folks! If you want to use any of the uses above I would suggest using the original Listerine(that's what I did) or any other antiseptic mouthwash that doesn't have any smell/minty flavor; unless you want your stuff smelling minty ahaha...hope you guys try at least one of these; let me know what you think.
